TOPIC: SPIRITUAL SONSHIP

TEXT: Roman 8:14-17(NKJV)

  • 8:14. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
  • 8:15. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
  • 8:16. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
  • 8:17. and if children, then heirs — heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with [Him,] that we may also be glorified together.

STUDY:

There are two basic ways to become a son in a particular family – by natural birth or by adoption. Through adoption into the Body of Christ, we become God’s legitimate children, created in his image and for his divine purposes. Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; Behold, all things are become new (2 Cor. 5:17).

It is therefore essential for a son to look like his father, physically or and genetically. Spiritual sonship is basically having a newness of life and exhibiting the attributes of Christ our Lord and Father.

Through the new birth or redemption, we are now biological sons of God. He is a loving and caring father who will never leave nor forsake us; He treats us as sons and so we have good inheritance with the father and are neither slaves nor illegitimate children.

Slavery brings fear and contempt but the spirit of fellowship with God. What a privilege to be an heir and more so, joint-heirs with Christ. Hallelujah!

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, help me to acknowledge my position as a son in your kingdom, Amen!
