TOPIC: THE PROMISED HOLY GHOST

TEXT: Acts 2:33-44(NKJV)

  • 2:33. “Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
  • 2:34. “For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: ‘The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,
2:35. Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” ‘
  • 2:36. “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
  • 2:37. Now when they heard [this,] they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men [and] brethren, what shall we do?”
  • 2:38. Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
  • 2:39. “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
  • 2:40. And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”
  • 2:41. Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added [to them.]
  • 2:42. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
  • 2:43. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
  • 2:44. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common,

STUDY:

The experience of the day of Pentecost was amazing to both the Apostles and Gentiles that witnessed it (Acts 2:1-6). The Apostles had been waiting in Jerusalem to be empowered as instructed by Jesus Christ on his day of ascension.

As promised and expected, The Holy Ghost came upon all of them in the house and they were empowered to: (i) speak in tongues (ii) boldly preach the gospel. The empowerment of the Holy Ghost was so heavy on the Apostles that day to the extent that Peter’s preaching alone pricked the hearts of his hearers so convincingly that they asked; “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37).

Peter responded in the power of the Holy Ghost that they should repent and be baptised and this made about three thousand souls to be added to the church that day (Acts 2:41). Baptism of the Holy Ghost is inevitable for ministerial success and fulfilment of a believer’s calling. Therefore, ask for it and you will receive in good measure as promised by the Lord.

PRAYER:

O Lord, let the promised Holy Ghost come upon me like in the day of Pentecost in Jesus’ Name, Amen!
