Topic: The Blessed Life
Bible Passage: PSALM 1:1-6 (NKJV)
Blessed [is] the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
The ungodly [are] not so, But [are] like the chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
The Message:
Psalms are ancient Hebrew religious songs and poems used for both private and congregational worship. They relate to the strength and covenant bond of God with His people to reward righteousness and unrighteousness accordingly. Our meditation today highlights the blessed lifestyle of exclusive delight of being in fellowship with God through His Word. This disciplined lifestyle keeps us away from unprofitable associations in ‘walking’, ‘standing’, and ‘sitting.’ The resultant blessing is likened to the fruitfulness of a constantly watered tree that knows no drought (cf. John 15:5). The person with this blessed lifestyle prospers in whatever they do. This is in contrast to the empty, directionless, and ungodly life of the wicked, which is blown away like chaff.
Beloved, let us not live like the ungodly, for God watches over the righteous, while the ungodly perish in their sinful ways. God’s way benefits and blesses those who walk in it. When we rebel, sin, or go our own way, we reap loss and death. The way of a blessed person is the way of love, obedience, peace, and rest, while the ways of the ungodly are the opposite. In order to prosper and be fruitful, we need to meditate on the word of God constantly and stay true to our faith in Christ Jesus.
Prayer:
Lord, I receive grace to live a godly and acceptable life, Amen!
Conclusion
My dear brethren, the blessed life is not about worldly riches or temporary pleasures, but about living a life rooted in God’s Word. Just like the tree planted by rivers of water, when we delight ourselves in the Lord, we will bear fruit in due season and enjoy a life of divine favor and prosperity. The ungodly may seem to flourish for a moment, but their end is destruction, like chaff blown away by the wind.
Let us choose the path of righteousness, rejecting ungodly counsel and unprofitable associations. Meditate on God’s Word daily, let it guide your thoughts, words, and actions, and trust in His faithfulness to bless and sustain you.
As we go forth, may we embrace the blessed life—a life of peace, joy, and eternal significance in Christ Jesus. Amen.
