TOPIC: ALIVE IN CHRIST
TEXT: 1 Corinthians 15:12-22(NKJV)
- 15:12. Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
- 15:13. But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen.
- 15:14. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching [is] empty and your faith [is] also empty.
- 15:15. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up — if in fact the dead do not rise.
- 15:16. For if [the] dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.
- 15:17. And if Christ is not risen, your faith [is] futile; you are still in your sins!
- 15:18. Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
- 15:19. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.
- 15:20. But now Christ is risen from the dead, [and] has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
- 15:21. For since by man [came] death, by Man also [came] the resurrection of the dead.
- 15:22. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.
STUDY:
In today’s text, Paul takes up an argument about some who said that there is no resurrection from the dead. He argued that if there is no resurrection, then Christ is not risen, the preaching of the gospel is useless and people were still in their sins while those who died in Christ had perished.
Without resurrection, those who put their faith in Christ should be most pitiable. However, Christ is risen from the dead as the first fruits of those who had died, and Paul concluded that as all men die in Adam, so shall all men be made alive in Christ. According to Wikipedia, universal resurrection is the belief in a resurrection of or from the dead by which most or all dead people would be brought back to life.
Apart from Christianity, other religions believe in the resurrection from the dead. The Bible talks of two types of resurrection: Resurrection of life (for believers) and the resurrection of condemnation (for unbelievers) (John 5:28-29). In which resurrection will you partake? Believe in Christ and live for his glory if you want to be in the resurrection of life.
PRAYER:
Precious Father, I believe in the risen Lord, and I hope to be made alive in Him, Amen!
