TOPIC: PAUL APPEARS BEFORE AGRIPPA

TEXT: Acts 26:1-8(NKJV)

  • 26:1. Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You are permitted to speak for yourself.” So Paul stretched out his hand and answered for himself:
  • 26:2. “I think myself happy, King Agrippa, because today I shall answer for myself before you concerning all the things of which I am accused by the Jews,
  • 26:3. “especially because you are expert in all customs and questions which have to do with the Jews. Therefore I beg you to hear me patiently.
  • 26:4. “My manner of life from my youth, which was spent from the beginning among my own nation at Jerusalem, all the Jews know.
  • 26:5. “They knew me from the first, if they were willing to testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.
  • 26:6. “And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers.
  • 26:7. “To this [promise] our twelve tribes, earnestly serving [God] night and day, hope to attain. For this hope’s sake, King Agrippa, I am accused by the Jews.
  • 26:8. “Why should it be thought incredible by you that God raises the dead?

STUDY:

In our text, Paul came before King Agrippa who permitted him to speak. Paul was happy for the opportunity to respond to the accusations against him by the Jews before Agrippa who was an expert in Jewish customs and questions.

Paul recounted his life as a zealous youth in the Jewish religion and had lived as a strict Pharisee. Paul believed in the resurrection of the dead and told King Agrippa that it was because of this hope of the resurrection that he was being accused by the Jews. He asked the King why he should not believe that God could raise the dead. Notice how politely Paul began his speech before the king, requesting for his patience.

He then wisely gave the background of his life as a strict Pharisee who believed in the resurrection from the dead, which according to him was why he was being accused by the Jews. Paul was bold to stand up for his faith before King Agrippa. Do you stand up for your faith before people in authority?

As a Christian, you should know who you are and be ready to defend your faith anywhere and anytime. Be intentional in reading the Bible to build up your faith!

PRAYER:

My Father, help me to boldly stand up for my faith at all times in Jesus’ Name, Amen!
