The celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Anglican church of the Ascension Opebi climaxed on the 20th of August, 2023 with a Thanksgiving and Lord feast, theme: “New Life in Christ Jesus”.
The celebration which started in April featured various spiritual activities such as the Ascension bon fire, Ascension spiritual praises, documentary and societies presentation.
Speaking on the theme of the day, the bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, Anglican Communion, the Right Reverend Dr. James Olusola Odedeji noted that no man has an encounter with God and still remain the same. Citing some examples in the bible, the bishop said Apostle Paul, Zacheuss, Mary Magdalene had encounter with God and their lives were regenerated.
He admonished the ascensionists and everyone present surrender their lives totally to the dictate of the holy spirit so as to enjoy the full blessings of God.
Earlier, the chairman of the Anniversary, Mr. Ayo Lawson had described the existence of the Anglican church of the Ascension for 40 years, 1983 – 2023, as a journey of love, growth in all ramifications and of course we found Jesus and home here!
According to him, looking through our testimonies and miracles we are reminded again to turn to God in worship, connect with our ‘ABBA FATHER’ and be empowered, saying that this does not have to be just another Sunday, it can be a life changing one.
The colourful ceremony had in attendance former vicars, priests, well wishers and members in diaspora, the Chief host , Bishop James Odedeji as well as the new Vicar and his Assistants, the Venerable Gabriel Fawole.
