As the first term of the 2024/2025 academic session approaches, the Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Education, has issued a stern warning to parents to enroll their children only in government-approved schools throughout the state.
Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the state Commissioner for Education, emphasized that parents who send their children to unapproved schools will be considered accomplices in any legal actions and will face the consequences of their decisions.
In a press statement released on Wednesday, Chuma-Udeh urged parents to make early arrangements for their children’s enrollment. She expressed concern that some unrecognized schools simply gather children in rooms without teachers, leading to conflicts and injuries among students.
“Parents are strongly advised to enroll their children exclusively in government-recognized schools in Anambra State,” Chuma-Udeh stated. “Any parent who registers a child in an unapproved school should be prepared to face the consequences.”
She noted that poorly managed, unrecognized schools, including some recently shut down, have resulted in children being left unsupervised and engaging in harmful behavior. “These children will not be allowed to participate in state examinations, and their parents will be held accountable in any legal proceedings against these institutions.”
Chuma-Udeh also reiterated Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to upholding every child’s right to quality education, affirming that any violation of this right will be taken seriously by the state.
