Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and recovered N2.2 million believed to be ransom proceeds during a follow-up operation linked to the rescue of an abducted victim in the state.

The operation was carried out by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit following intelligence gathered during investigations into the abduction of a resident of Ogbe Village on June 11, 2026.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim was rescued unharmed on June 18 after sustained surveillance, intelligence gathering and tactical pressure mounted on the kidnappers by security operatives.

Following the victim’s rescue, police intensified efforts to track down members of the kidnapping syndicate. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives traced some members of the gang to a hideout within the state.

The suspects reportedly opened fire on the police team upon sighting them in an attempt to evade arrest. The operatives responded, leading to a gun battle during which two of the suspected kidnappers were killed, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

A search conducted after the operation led to the recovery of a single-barrel firearm, an expended cartridge, a mobile phone and N2.2 million suspected to be proceeds from criminal activities.

The police said investigations are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and uncover the full extent of the gang’s operations.

Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its professionalism and bravery. He reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across Ogun State.

Ojajuni also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies to aid efforts aimed at improving security in the state.
