The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, Najeem Salaam, has condemned the killing of a teacher abducted during the recent attack on schools in Oyo State.
Salaam stated that the protection of Nigerians should take priority over political activities and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement made available in Osogbo on Tuesday, the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly described the killing of Mr. Michael Oyedokun as heartbreaking and a reflection of the worsening insecurity across the country.
Oyedokun was among those abducted during the attack on Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Salaam described the incident as barbaric, stressing that the continued abduction and killing of innocent Nigerians have become unacceptable.
“The rising wave of insecurity across the country has reached an alarming level. It is painful that teachers and other innocent Nigerians are now easy targets for kidnappers and criminal elements,” he said.
According to him, governance should focus on protecting lives, securing communities and restoring public confidence in the nation’s security system.
“The lives of Nigerians are more important than 2027 politicking. Governance must be about protecting the people, securing communities, and restoring confidence in the nation’s security architecture,” Salaam stated.
He urged the Federal Government and security agencies to respond urgently to the growing security challenges facing the country.
The ADC governorship candidate also called for intensified efforts to secure the release of the remaining abducted victims, urging authorities to deploy every available strategy and resource toward their rescue.
According to him, the tragic incident should serve as a wake-up call for leaders across the country to treat insecurity as a national emergency requiring decisive action.
Salaam condoled with the family of the deceased teacher, his colleagues, students and the people of Oyo State over the incident.
Recall that armed bandits attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday, abducting about 30 students and teachers while two persons were reportedly killed.
The affected schools include Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
