President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, following the submission of his letter citing pressing family considerations.
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed deep appreciation for Egbetokun’s decades of service to the Nigeria Police Force and the country at large. He commended his professionalism and commitment to strengthening the nation’s internal security architecture during his tenure.
Egbetokun, who was appointed in June 2023, was serving a four-year term expected to end in June 2027 in line with provisions of the amended Police Act.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police with immediate effect.

The President expressed confidence that Disu’s operational experience and leadership capacity will provide steady direction for the police force at this critical time.
In accordance with the Police Act 2020, the President will shortly convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider the appointment. His name will thereafter be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security and ensuring the police force remains professional, accountable, and fully equipped to carry out its constitutional duties.
