Another milestone was marked in the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, as the Primate of all Nigeria, The Most Rev’d Dr. Henry Ndukuba inaugurated the Diocese of Lagos South-west as the 166th Diocese in the Church of Nigeria at the Pro-Cathedral Church of the Pentecost, Festac Town, Lagos.
The service which took place on November 25, 2025, started by 9:00am featuring a long procession by the choir, lay readers, priests, wardens, legal officers, Bishops and Archbishops, Registrar of the Church of Nigeria, the Dean and the Primate. The lesson was taken from the book of first Peter 5:1-11.

According to the statement by Engr. Korede Akintunde, the CoN communications officer, the sermon was delivered at this historical service by The Most Rev’d Simeon Borokini, who is the Archbishop of Ondo Province.
He message was taken from Ephesians 2:20 with the topic “Build to Endure; Standing on the foundation of Jesus Christ”, and he charged the new diocese to ensure that the foundation be well laid on Christ alone who is the cornerstone of the Church.
He urged the members to remain focused on God and His mission among them uniting to build a strong and resilient diocese. He emphasized that it is only in unity of purpose that the diocese can forge ahead and not in division.
He noted that God is still building His church and we are all part of the process adding that the creation of this diocese is a call to duty and members must break new fallow grounds, be ready to spend and be spent, win souls and plant more churches for the growth of the gospel of Christ.
He concluded by encouraging the new bishop, The Rt. Rev’d Ebenezer Adewole to work with his members and clergymen for a successful ministry and not be in competition with them or other dioceses around. He added that he must be a bridge builder carrying everyone along in the building of the diocese.
After the message, the representatives of the various archdeaconries being carved out as a diocese namely, Iba, Festac and Amuwo Odofin, presented their petition to create the diocese before the Primate who accepted the petition and called for the deeds (relinquishment and acceptance) to be read and executed.

The primate thereafter inaugurated the Diocese of Lagos South West with a great funfair from the congregation and lead the prayers for the new diocese and the bishop.
The service was conducted by the Dean of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Rev’d Dr. Blessing Enyindah and attended by over 50 bishops and Archbishops of the Church, Lagos State government officials, clergymen from various dioceses, Church of Nigeria officials, captains of industries among other dignitaries.
Lagos South West was part of the newly created 15 dioceses in the Church of Nigeria at its last Standing committee meeting held in Ekiti last September.
Immediately after the inaugural service, the enthronement service commenced.
