Profile Of Venerable Dr. Kanta Ayuba, Bishop-Elect Of Diocese Of Zuru

The Venerable Dr. Ayuba Y. Kanta was born on the 26th November 1966 at Dabai Seme in Dabai District of Zuru Local Government area in Kebbi State. He is the third child to the family of Baba Dogon Yaro Kanta and Mama Tasaba Dogon Yaro both of blessed memory.

Ven. Dr. Kanta started his early education at the age of nine years at Bajida primary school in 1975 and later his parents moved to Niger state where he completed his primary school at Ndayako L.E.A. Primary school, Mokwa in 1980.

He was admitted to Government secondary school Koko from 1980-1982 where he sat for the Special Science School Management Board Examination and passed with distinctions to Government Science Secondary School, Zuru from 1982 – 1985.

Ven. Dr. Kanta was ordained deacon in 2000 at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke’s Church, Birnin Kebbi and was posted to St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Argungu from 2000 to 2001. He was transferred to St. Mathias Anglican Church Zuru where he was priested in 2001. 

He served as an assisting priest at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Argungu, from 2000 to 2001, St. Mathias’ Anglican Church, Zuru, from 2001 to 2002, St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Yelwa Yauri from 2002 to 2005, and later became the vicar of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Yauri, from 2005 to 2012.

He was the Vicar at All Saints’ Anglican Church, Jega and doubled as the Argungu Deanery Chairman from 2012 to 2017, and presently, the Vicar St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Makeran Gandu, Birnin Kebbi from 2017 to 2025 and also doubled as the Birnin Kebbi Archdeaconry Chairman. 

In 2017, the Ven. Dr. Kanta was also elected as Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Kebbi State Chapter from 2017 to date and has served two tenures, the second tenure elapses in December 2025. 

Ven. Dr. Kanta secured admission at the Institute of Education, A.B.U. Zaria from 1986-1989 and passed the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE), majoring in Biology and Chemistry. 

He got employed with the Sokoto State Civil Service Commission in 1989, and was posted to Government Girls Unity College, Illela, Sokoto State to teach Biology and Chemistry in 1989 to 1991

From 1991, he secured admission at Bayero University Kano. Where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) Applied Biology.    

With the creation of Kebbi State in 1991, he was redeployed to Government Secondary School Gwandu while on course.

After his National Youth Corps Service at Akwa Ibom in 1995 he was posted to Sama Secondary School Argungu where he taught Biology from 1995-1997.

He was then transferred to Kanta Unity College from 1997-2001, where he taught Biology, Christian Religious Knowledge, (CRK) and served as the health master of the College.

Ven. Dr. Kanta also secured employment as a lecturer from 2001, at the College of Advanced and Legal studies, Yelwa Yauri where he taught physiology and anatomy of plants and animals between 2001-2012. He was also the H.O.D of Biological sciences, at the College of Advanced and Legal studies, Yelwa -Yauri, Kebbi State from 2009-2012.

Ven. Dr. Kanta has two master’s degree from the University of Jos, M.Sc. Applied Entomology and Parasitology from 2006 to 2008, Master of Divinity in Missions Study from 2004 to 2008 at the Theological College of Northern Nigeria Bukuru. 

He holds a Doctoral Degree in Missions and Church Ministry from Crowther Graduate Theological Seminary, Abeokuta from 2014 to 2018. 

Ven. Dr. Kanta is a fellow of the Haggai Institute for Church Leadership and Anglican Leadership (Ali) Institute, West Tisbury, Massachusetts, U.S.A. And a fellow of the Parasitological and Entomological Society of Nigeria. 

He is currently the Vicar, St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Makeran Gandu, and Birnin Kebbi Archdeaconry Chairman and the State CAN Chairman respectively.  Ven. Kanta is dogged missionary and Church Planter.

Venerable Kanta is happily married to Ladi Helen Ayuba and are blessed with five children: four beautiful girls and one handsome boy.
