Profile of Venerable Ebenezer Ajayi Adewole, Bishop-Elect for Lagos South West Diocese

The Ven Dr. Adewole Ajayi Ebenezer, born of Ondo origin on October 12, 1971, in Kano, Dr. Adewole was baptized on March 4, 1978, at 3 Infantry Brigade in the Diocese of Northern Nigeria and confirmed on July 25, 1987.

Then Rev’d Ebenezer Adewole was ordained Deacon in 2001 and Priested in 2002. His first pastoral assignment was as Assistant Priest at St. John’s Anglican Church, Ifon-Osun (2001–2002). Shortly after, he was posted as Vicar of St. Thomas’ Anglican Church, Ekusa (2002–2003). 

His ministry quickly gained recognition for its revival, spiritual depth and pastoral sensitivity.

By 2003, he joined All Saints’ Cathedral, Osogbo, as Assistant Priest. Later that year, he was appointed Vicar of St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Osogbo, where he also rose to become Archdeacon, serving until 2010. His preferment followed soon after: he was made Honorary Canon in 2007, installed as a Statutory Canon in 2008, and preferred Archdeacon in 2009.

From 2010 to 2014, he was Vicar and Archdeacon of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ikirun, before he transferred to the Diocese of Lagos West. There, his ministry blossomed in vibrant urban parishes, serving as Vicar in St. John’s the Evangelist Church, Akowonjo (2014), followed by Vicar of St. John’s Anglican Church, Satellite Town and Administrator of Satellite Archdeaconry (2014–2016), and then the Vicar of Anglican Church of the Ascension, Opebi and Administrator of Opebi Archdeaconry (2016–2020).

In December 2020, he was appointed Dean of Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Ikeja, Lagos a position he held until his election as to head the newly created Diocese of Lagos South-West to hold with vision and dedication.

The Ven Dr. Ebenezer Adewole is a man whose pursuit of knowledge matches his dedication to ministry. He studied Finance at the University of Ilorin, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1995. Yet, the call of God on his life directed him into theological formation. 

He trained at Archbishop Vining College of Theology, Akure (1999–2001), where he obtained a Diploma in Religious Studies and Diploma in Theology. This was followed by continuous growth in theology and Christian education, culminating in a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Immanuel College, Ibadan (2021–2023).

Alongside his theological studies, he advanced academically in the field of governance and administration, earning an M.Sc. in Public Administration from the National Open University of Nigeria (2014–2019), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration (2021–2025). 

He also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Philosophy from the University of Lagos (2022–2025). His unique academic profile bridges the worlds of theology, philosophy, and administration equipping him as a teacher, pastor, and leader.

Beyond church leadership, The Ven. Dr. Ebenezer Adewole has been actively involved in youth and prayer ministries. He served as Diocesan Youth Chaplain in Osun Diocese (2003–2014), Prayer Coordinator (2007–2014), and Clergy Auditor (2006–2014). 

At the provincial level, he contributed as Youth Coordinator and Prayer Secretary in Ibadan Province, shaping the spiritual lives of many young people and clergy.

His ministry has also taken him across Africa, Europe, and North America. 

He has participated in African Prayer House Conferences in Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Ivory Coast; studied at the Renovaré Institute for Christian Spiritual Formation in Dallas, Texas; attended the Wilberforce Academy at Jesus College, University of Oxford, UK; completed a course on the Spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi at the Anglican Centre in Rome; and joined the Anglican Leadership Institute in Boston, USA. 

These experiences broadened his outlook and deepened his commitment to spiritual renewal within Anglicanism.

He is happily married to Mrs. Mercy Folasade Ph.D and blessed with four (4) lovely and Godly children. As a family-oriented priest, Ven. Dr. Ebenezer Adewole balances his ministry with personal interests that nurture his inner life. He enjoys reading, contemplation, and social works, disciplines that reflect his love for knowledge, reflection, and service to humanity.
