The Rivers State Police Command has arrested 41-year-old Pastor Ifediorah Onyeibor Joseph on allegations of subjecting minors to inhumane treatment during a church program.

The arrest followed the viral circulation of a disturbing video on social media that reportedly showed children undergoing dehumanizing treatment at the church.

According to the statement by police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Pastor Joseph organized a three-day program for children, which he claimed was for “spiritual cleaning” and was “inspired by the Holy Spirit.”

Acting on intelligence, police operatives stormed the church premises, arresting the pastor and several members of his congregation. They also rescued the minors, who have since been placed under protective care.

SP Iringe-Koko stated that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the incident and whether any laws were violated.

She also mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, urged the public to remain calm, assuring them that the safety and dignity of vulnerable people, especially children, are a top priority for the Command.

CP Adepoju also reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting citizens and called on residents to report any suspicious activities or cases of abuse to the nearest police station or relevant security agency.
