The Anglican Diocese of Niger Delta is celebrating a major milestone, as Bishop The Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Okwuchi Oko-Jaja marks his third anniversary on the Episcopal See.

Since his enthronement on July 31, 2022, his tenure has been characterized by significant growth and a renewed focus on spiritual and community development.

According to a press release from the NDD Directorate of Media & Communications, Bishop Oko-Jaja’s leadership has ushered in a “season of transformation, spiritual revival, and impactful leadership.”

A key focus of his three years has been on spiritual renewal. The Diocese’s annual Sunday School Conference has been re-branded as the “Greater Glory Conference,” an event that has seen a major increase in attendance and influence. Additionally, the “Fresh Fire Conference” has become a central event for congregants to deepen their faith.

Under his guidance, the Diocese has also seen substantial expansion in its physical and community presence. Several new churches have been planted, and significant infrastructural projects have been completed, including a new Bishop’s Court.

The Diocese has also launched the NDD Printing Press and has ongoing projects for a Workers’ Quarters and a new Secretariat building.

Bishop Oko-Jaja has placed a strong emphasis on youth development, introducing initiatives like the Youth Easter Breakfast and a 24-Hour Praise event to foster spiritual growth and leadership skills among young members. Furthering this commitment to the next generation, he launched the Diocesan Scholarship Scheme, which currently supports over 20 youths.

The Diocese also plans to train 50 youths in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) certification later this year to equip them with valuable workplace skills.

His leadership style, described as one of integrity and unity, was recently recognized with his investiture as the Grand Chaplain of the Metropolitan Battalion Council (MBC) of the Boy’s Brigade Nigeria, Rivers State Council.

This event marked a historic milestone, as the Diocese became the first Anglican Grand Chaplaincy in the MBC’s history.

The Bishop’s wife, Dr. Mrs. Chinyere Oko-Jaja, has been an integral part of this growth, advancing the women’s ministry through projects like the WONDDAC Bakery and NIDWOM Water Factory.

Bishop Oko-Jaja’s tenure has also focused on the welfare of both clergy and laity, with a diocesan welfare scheme and strategic ordinations to strengthen the clerical workforce. The recent preferring of 10 priests as Honorary Canons of the Cathedral is a testament to his recognition of dedicated service.

As the Bishop continues his work, the Diocese of Niger Delta is being hailed as a “beacon of faith, unity, and development,” grounded in a vision for lasting impact on both the church and the broader society.
