TOPIC: THE MESSAGE OF CHRIST’S ASCENSION

TEXT: Acts 1:9-11(NKJV)

  • 1:9. Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
  • 1:10. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,
  • 1:11. who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This [same] Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

STUDY:

Today is Ascension Day when we celebrate the ascension of Jesus into heaven. What is the significance of this event? A few things: Christ’s exaltation and authority. Through ascension, Jesus was exalted and took his place at the right hand of God in heaven.

This event signifies his authority over all creation and role as the King of kings and Lord of lords. Also, it shows the completion of Christ’ earthly ministry and the imminent coming of the promised Holy Spirit.

Again, the ascension of Christ guarantees his second coming. In ascension, we see “the exceeding greatness of God’s power which He wrought in Christ when He raised Christ from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly … far above all principality and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named…” (Eph. 1:19-21).

When God raised Christ from the dead, He also “…raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2:6). As a believer, to live in ascension is to live in divine power and authority, and concerning demons, we are seated with Christ “…far above all principality and power…” Hallelujah! For us, ascension is not just a liturgical day; it is a life of dominion with Christ.

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, continue to show me the mystery of Christ’s ascension, Amen!
