The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) announced on Monday that it has uncovered a group in Rivers State distributing allegedly counterfeit medications under the guise of evangelism.

At a press briefing in Port Harcourt, NAFDAC’s South‑South Zonal Director, Mr. Chukwuma Oligbu, explained that the group was located at Abuloma Community Town Hall. He reported that agency operatives arrested one member while administering a suspected fake drug to a civilian.

All seized products have been transported to NAFDAC’s offices for further examination and documentation. According to Oligbu, the items in circulation included unregistered eye drops, bottled water, cleansers, and tablets—marketed under names such as “Evangelist Jenkins Supernatural Water,” “Evangelist Jenkins Cleanser,” and “Evangelist Jenkins Eye Drop.”

Posing as a faith‑based outreach, the group claimed these products could cure gastrointestinal ailments and vision problems. Disturbingly, some users of the eye drops have experienced eye swelling, which the distributors have misleadingly touted as proof of the drug’s potency.

“These products lack ingredient lists, NAFDAC registration numbers, manufacturer details, and expiration dates,” Oligbu warned. “The organizers misled people into purchasing them, charging a minimum of ₦5,000 per item and presenting the scheme as a free medical mission offering treatment for goiter, cancer, piles, arthritis, skin rashes, fibroids, cataracts, and glaucoma.”
