The Niger State Government has expressed serious concern over the presence of suspected landmines planted by terrorists in certain areas of Shiroro Local Government Area. Authorities have urged residents to stay clear of these regions until the military can ensure the safe removal of the explosives.

In a statement after the 2024 Base Socio-Cultural Activities (BASA) event at the 013 Quick Response Force of the Nigerian Air Force in Minna, Commissioner for Homeland Security Bello Abdullahi highlighted the critical nature of the situation.

“We are advising residents, particularly those farming near Basa, to remain cautious and limit their movement. It is unsafe to enter these areas until the military has completed its clearance of the suspected mines,” Abdullahi said. Intelligence reports indicate that terrorists have begun planting bombs in the region, escalating the security threat.

This warning comes in the wake of a tragic bombing incident on December 19, 2024, when a series of explosions in the Bassa community of Shiroro Local Government Area killed three people and injured five others.
