Addressing recent developments, EFCC Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede emphasized that while Nigerians are fundamentally good people, the country’s system is rife with issues that enable fraud to thrive.
Speaking during a visit from the NDDC delegation led by Dr. Samuel Ogbuku at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, Olukoyede underscored the importance of transparency and accountability among public officeholders.
Olukoyede expressed his appreciation for the NDDC’s “Rewind to Rebirth” initiative and praised Dr. Ogbuku for his commitment to reform. He urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure that officials refrain from using federal interventions to undermine state governments, stressing that piecemeal solutions are insufficient.
“Despite the challenges, we believe in building a system grounded in accountability and integrity,” Olukoyede stated. He reiterated the need for all public officials to act with probity, reminding them that their actions today could lead to scrutiny tomorrow.
Highlighting systemic flaws, Olukoyede remarked that Nigeria’s operational framework often perpetuates corruption. However, he affirmed the EFCC’s dedication to combating corruption with resolve and integrity, promising continued support for the NDDC’s mandate.
Dr. Ogbuku, in his remarks, expressed gratitude for the EFCC’s assistance in financial recoveries and outlined plans to invest these funds into Niger Delta development projects. He called for increased collaboration and technical support from the EFCC to enhance NDDC’s operations and governance.
