Moscow threatened to take new measures if Washington keeps creating problems for partners of Russian media outlets, the head of the Russian Federation Council’s commission on protection of state sovereignty, Andrey Klimov, said.
U.S. company Multicultural Radio Broadcasting Inc. (MRBI), broadcasting Sputnik radio programmes on AM frequencies, received a notice from the U.S. Department of Justice about the possibility of registering as a “foreign agent”.
MRBI was requested to provide additional information for taking a decision, according to the letter by the Justice Department to the company’s lawyers obtained by Sputnik.
“We respond in a mirror-like manner, we don’t want further confrontation.
“If they [the US] start looking for and creating problems for our media partners, we may also dig deeper,” Klimov told Sputnik on Thursday.
“If the U.S. backtracks, we will also reconsider some of our decisions, if it increases pressure on Russian media outlets, we will have to respond,” he said.
Russia’s broadcaster RT America registered was a “foreign agent” in the U.S. on Nov. 13 as demanded by the Justice Department.
