In an upcoming pivotal event scheduled for July 18, 2024, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in partnership with leaders or representatives from tertiary institutions, will convene to establish the cut-off marks for admissions in the 2024/2025 academic session.
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, will preside over this significant policy meeting focused on admissions into tertiary institutions.
This announcement was communicated via the weekly bulletin of JAMB, disclosed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Head of Media for the board, on Monday, June 24.
The annual policy meeting on admissions serves as the cornerstone for shaping the admission procedures for the academic year and crafting essential admission guidelines.
During this crucial gathering, stakeholders review application statistics, assess candidates’ performances, and establish the minimum admission criteria applicable to all tertiary institutions across Nigeria for the upcoming year.
JAMB identified key stakeholders scheduled to attend the meeting, including leaders of regulatory bodies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE), heads of tertiary institutions nationwide, and representatives from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), among others.
The announcement also included that, “Throughout the session, the Registrar will provide updates on the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications. Key performance metrics will be thoroughly examined to inform potential government policy decisions.”
“Furthermore, the meeting will inform stakeholders about significant issues that arose during the previous year’s admission process. Additionally, it will evaluate the performance of candidates in the current year’s UTME to set the minimum acceptable score for the year.
“Recall that stakeholders had previously reached a consensus on the minimum admission standards for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.”
“Moreover, the meeting aims to establish this year’s admission criteria, initiate the admission process for the current academic year, address outstanding issues from the previous year, evaluate stakeholders’ adherence to existing guidelines, and propose adjustments as needed.”
