The United States Mission to Nigeria has strongly condemned the atrocities committed by Boko Haram, reaffirming its commitment to fighting terrorism in Nigeria and West Africa.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the US Mission denounced the violence and human rights abuses by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in Nigeria. The statement highlighted that Boko Haram has been designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization since November 14, 2013, with efforts to block its assets, restrict its fundraising, and prosecute its members.
The condemnation follows US President Donald Trump’s decision on January 20, 2025, to suspend all foreign aid for 90 days, citing concerns over global destabilization and the misuse of US aid funds.
Despite the aid suspension, the US government reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with Nigeria and regional allies to strengthen security, counterterrorism efforts, and peace initiatives in West Africa.
