In a bid to address the rising transportation costs, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has granted two days off per week to public servants on Grade Levels 01-14. Officers on Grade Levels 15-17 will have one day off each week.
The directive, communicated in a statement from Oladipupo Ogunfowora, Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Service Matters, aims to ease the financial pressure on workers due to increased fuel prices. The statement, released on Wednesday, underscores Governor Abiodun’s commitment to enhancing worker welfare and instructs all accounting officers to apply the new policy in their respective departments without disrupting service delivery.
Ogunfowora noted that this new policy extends the previous one introduced in July 2023, which allowed one day off per week for all grade levels. The latest adjustment to two days off for lower-grade workers seeks to further reduce their financial burden and improve productivity.
The statement outlined: “To mitigate the effects of the recent fuel price hike and its impact on transportation and living standards, Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved two days off per week for Grade Levels 01-14, while those on Grade Levels 15-17 will receive one day off per week.”
“This initiative is intended to alleviate the commuting challenges faced by public servants, provide substantial relief, and enhance their efficiency through increased motivation.”
Accounting officers are directed to implement this policy promptly, ensuring that it does not compromise service quality. Additionally, appropriate monitoring mechanisms should be established to ensure adherence to the new policy.
