Amidst recent reports, Ajuri Ngelale’s resignation as Spokesperson for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is said to have been driven by concerns over a potential dismissal.
Ngelale initially announced his departure, citing medical and personal issues as reasons for his leave of absence. The Presidency later confirmed and accepted his resignation.
However, sources have suggested that Ngelale’s exit was due to his perceived failure to meet the demands of the role. Some members of Tinubu’s cabinet reportedly criticized Ngelale for lacking the “experience, contacts, and networks” necessary for the position. “Appointing such an inexperienced journalist to such a senior role was a miscalculation. It’s not surprising he couldn’t deliver as expected,” a source told Premium Times.
Similarly, the Foundation for Investigative Journalism Nigeria reported that Ngelale was dismissed by the Presidency, contradicting his claims of resignation due to personal reasons.
Additionally, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) had previously questioned Ngelale’s suitability for the spokesperson role. Ngelale was appointed in August 2023.
