Scammers are impersonating the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in a new wave of fraudulent activities targeting hopeful postgraduate scholarship applicants.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, warned the public about deceptive messages and emails being circulated by fraudsters. These messages falsely claim to offer foreign postgraduate scholarships and demand payment under the guise of securing placement.
The fraudsters, claiming to represent the commission’s ‘Board Registry,’ have even invited recipients to a fictitious verification exercise said to be taking place from May 19 to 21 at Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
“There is no such verification event, and the NDDC is not in any way linked to this scam,” Thompson-Wakama stated firmly.
She reiterated that all authentic communication regarding NDDC scholarship programmes is conducted exclusively through the commission’s official portal: www.scholarship.nddc.gov.ng.
The commission advised the public to be vigilant and avoid responding to unsolicited requests for money or personal information. Any suspicious messages should be promptly reported to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
For verified information on its scholarship programmes and other initiatives, the NDDC urged the public to rely solely on its official website: www.nddc.gov.ng.
