Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has addressed a viral AI-generated image that depicted him as an alhaji.
The image, which circulated widely on social media in late December 2024, showed him dressed in Islamic attire and standing before the Kaabah in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Speaking during the RCCG’s first Holy Ghost Night of the year, held on January 4, Adeboye acknowledged the image with a wry smile, saying, “I’m sure many of you saw that picture showing me as an alhaji.” While addressing mockers, he predicted that many would not survive the year, but he reiterated that God does not delight in the death of sinners.
Prophecies and Global Concerns
In his message, titled “The Glory Ahead,” Adeboye urged prayers for global peace amidst ongoing conflicts to avert another world war. He also prophesied an unprecedented earthquake in 2025, alongside significant breakthroughs, promotions, and long-awaited milestones for individuals.
Assuring his congregation of a brighter future, he emphasized God’s divine purpose for humanity and the importance of fulfilling it on earth. He predicted that peace would return to Nigeria following the church’s 100-day fast.
Focus on Nigeria
Adeboye outlined a prayer agenda for Nigeria during the fast, dedicating the first 30 days to uprooting obstacles to the nation’s progress. He vowed to lead “violent prayers” against these hindrances. He also issued fasting guidelines, exempting those over 90 and providing specific advice for those above 70.
Emphasizing the role of prayer, Adeboye warned that fasting without prayer is merely a “hunger strike.” He encouraged participants to remain focused and avoid distractions throughout the fasting period.
The AI Image Incident
Reports from various media outlets, including FactCheckHub, confirmed that the AI-generated image originated from an X (formerly Twitter) user, @Sarkideyforyou. The post, captioned “Pastor Adeboye, may Allah guide you to the right path,” gained significant traction, amassing over 3.8 million views, 1,500 reposts, 1,800 comments, and 4,000 likes by December 22, 2024.
Despite the controversy, Adeboye remained composed, reiterating his faith in God’s plans and encouraging prayers for the church, Nigeria, and the global community.
