Governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are calling out the federal government for its insufficient interventions in states. In a communiqué released Friday after their meeting in Jalingo,
Taraba State, the governors criticized the federal palliatives, arguing that these measures fall short of addressing the country’s economic challenges.
The governors have urged President Bola Tinubu to prevent his officials from using these interventions to make state governments look ineffective. The communiqué highlighted the frustration with the federal government’s approach, stating, “Instead of reviewing policies to offer meaningful relief, the federal government has resorted to blackmail and piecemeal solutions.”
The governors called for presidential leadership to avoid blame-shifting and to focus on genuine solutions. They remain committed to supporting Nigerian citizens and taking all legitimate actions to alleviate their hardships.
Additionally, the forum expressed concerns about potential tampering in the upcoming Edo governorship election and accused security forces of intimidating PDP supporters. They also urged the federal government to expedite fair trials for those arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests, commiserating with families of the victims and applauding the governors’ efforts to manage the crisis with maturity.
