In a landmark achievement, Asisat Oshoala has made history with Bay FC, marking a major milestone for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) expansion team.
In their inaugural season, the San Francisco-based club recorded 11 wins from 26 matches, securing 34 points and finishing 7th in the standings. This strong performance earned them a spot in the playoffs, where they will face Washington Spirit on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
Oshoala, who joined Bay FC after her tenure with FC Barcelona, contributed seven goals, ranking 13th on the league’s scorer list by the end of the regular season. The team plays its home matches at PayPal Park in San Jose, California, a venue with an 18,000-seat capacity that also hosts Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes.
Bay FC’s expansion franchise, awarded on April 4, 2023, is backed by an ownership group led by investment firm Sixth Street Partners and four former U.S. women’s national team players. The club is the first women’s professional soccer team in the Bay Area since the San Jose CyberRays and FC Gold Pride, who previously played in other leagues.
