The Nigerian Navy has warned members of the public against fake Direct Short Service Commission recruitment notices currently circulating on social media.
The warning was issued by the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abi Folorunsho, in a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday.
Folorunsho said the notices being circulated online claimed to advertise vacancies for DSSC Course 30 and listed various fields, including medicine, engineering, law, information and communication technology, among others.
He clarified that the notices were not issued by the Nigerian Navy and stressed that the Navy had not commenced its DSSC recruitment exercise.
“The attached DSSC notices are not from the Nigerian Navy and have been circulating all over social media,” he said.
According to him, members of the public should rely only on the Navy’s official communication channels for information concerning the recruitment exercise.
“The Nigerian Navy DSSC recruitment is not out, and when it is, the information will be posted on my page, the official Nigerian Navy website, and official social media pages. Please do not let anyone scam you,” Folorunsho stated.
The warning came a day after the Navy announced the commencement of its 2026 Batch 39 recruitment exercise for the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School.
The Navy said the Batch 39 recruitment would run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, with eligible applicants expected to submit their applications through the official recruitment portal.
It also reminded applicants that the recruitment process was free and warned them against paying individuals who claim they could facilitate their enlistment.
According to the Navy, applicants for the Basic Training School recruitment must be Nigerian citizens by birth, possess a National Identification Number and satisfy the stipulated educational, age, physical and medical requirements.
The Navy, however, clarified that the DSSC recruitment mentioned in Folorunsho’s warning is a separate exercise from the Batch 39 Basic Training School recruitment.
Members of the public have therefore been advised to verify recruitment information through the Navy’s official channels before taking any action or making payments.
