The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has escalated its response to an incident involving the popular musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as Kwam 1, by officially petitioning the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police.
The petition calls for a comprehensive criminal investigation and subsequent prosecution of the artist for alleged violations of aviation regulations.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, on a scheduled ValueJet flight VK201, disrupted standard operational procedures and raised serious concerns about passenger conduct and airline safety.
According to a statement signed by Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Kwam 1 was allegedly involved in actions that contravene the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs) 2023.
In a letter addressed to both the Attorney-General and the Inspector-general of Police, NCAA called for a comprehensive “criminal investigation and the initiation of appropriate prosecution.”
In a further move to ensure aviation safety and accountability, the Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, has issued an advisory to the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON).
The advisory urges a “No-Fly List” be instituted for Kwam 1 on all commercial flights, pending the outcome of the ongoing official investigations.
This measure, according to the NCAA, is in line with global aviation standards that prioritize the safety of passengers, crew, and airline operations.
The NCAA reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of the aviation industry, emphasizing that no individual, regardless of their status or public image, is above the law.
The Authority stated that passengers are held to the same standards of behavior and compliance within Nigeria’s airspace.
