Nathaniel Bassey, a renowned Christian music minister and pastor, has debunked claims that he was invited to perform at the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on January 20th.

The reports, which circulated widely across social and traditional media, suggested that Bassey would join other international Christian singers at the event. However, he clarified that the invitation was for the Presidential Prayer Breakfast, a separate, non-official, and non-governmental event that takes place before U.S. presidential inaugurations.

Bassey explained that the Presidential Prayer Breakfast is a faith-based gathering held every four years to pray and worship on behalf of the president’s office and the nation’s government. He stressed that while the event is hosted in the lead-up to a new administration, it is not officially linked to the inauguration or the incoming president.

“The Presidential Prayer Breakfast is a non-official and non-governmental event. It is a faith-based platform where intercessory prayers and worship are offered to God on behalf of the office of the president and the government of the nation,” he stated.

He also clarified that the event has been attended by leaders and dignitaries from around the world for many years but should not be mistaken for the official inauguration ceremony. “The Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast is not the inauguration, as reported by some blogs and online platforms,” Bassey added.
