In an effort geared towards increasing access to ‘LAKE Rice’ and ensure effective distribution of the rice across the State, the Lagos State Government has added two more centres to the already existing designated centres where residents can get the product, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Oluwatoyin Suarau has said.

Suarau, who stated this over the weekend in his office while reviewing reports from designated centres noted that the two additional centres; Farmers Mart, Ajah and Farm Service Centre, Temu-Epe will complement the activities of other centres in ensuring that LAKE Rice is available and accessible across the State.

“Other already existing designated sale centres are the secretariat of the 57 local government and local council development areas of Lagos, Farm Service Centre Odogunyan-Ikorodu; Farmers Mart Surulere; Agric Input Supply Authority (LAISA) Ojo; Agricultural Development Authority (ADA) Oko Oba, Agege and Lagos Television (LTV) Complex, Agidingbi-Ikeja”, the Commissioner said.

He added that the need to ensure that Lake Rice circulated into the nooks and crannies of Lagos is key in the State government’s drive to attain food sufficiency stressing that food production and self-sufficiency have been given priority attention at State’s policy and strategic levels.

The Commissioner, while noting that the price of the rice has not changed stressed that State government will continue to maintain the price of the product to make it affordable citizens.

Suarau added that the essence of the Lagos-Kebbi partnership to produce LAKE Rice is to ensure food security and show case the ability of Nigeria to become a producing nation.
He assured that the state government will ensure the continuous availability of the rice in already established designated outlets and the new ones and work assiduously to ensure adequate supply all over the state.

The commissioner also disclosed that necessary logistics have been put in place by the State government to ensure a hassle free purchase of the product in an atmosphere devoid of rancour in all approved sales centres adding that the processes of purchase has been made a lot more easier for everyone.
