In a heartfelt tribute, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan revealed that Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua, the late mother of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, was pivotal in shaping his life and career.
Jonathan shared this sentiment during a condolence visit to the Yar’Adua family in Katsina on Saturday, following the passing of their matriarch. He described her death as a significant personal loss.
The former president, who was en route to Kigali, Rwanda, when he learned of her passing, decided to return to Nigeria early and visit Katsina to offer his respects. “This remarkable woman was instrumental in my journey. Her passing is profoundly touching. It was her son who brought me into the limelight as his running mate, and without her, my name might not have resonated as it does today. She was like a mother to me, and losing her feels like losing my own mother,” Jonathan reflected.
He added, “I first heard the news while in Addis Ababa on my way to Kigali. I felt it was crucial to come here and convey my condolences to the Yar’Adua family, the people of Katsina State, and everyone who knew her.”
Newspot reports that Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua, who was also the mother of the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and Senator Abdul Aziz Musa Yar’Adua (current Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army), passed away on the evening of Monday, September 2nd, 2024, after a brief illness at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina.
