The Jigawa State Government has commenced the distribution of 38,911 sets of uniforms to female students of Senior Secondary Schools in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Jigawa State Ministry of Education, Alhaji Abba Mustapha stated this at the inauguration of the exercise on Monday in Jahun, headquarters of Jahun Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, students in 296 schools will benefit from the exercise.

“The gesture is part of the government’s commitment towards supporting girl-child education in the state and the country at large.

“I, therefore, call on the beneficiaries to make good use of the uniforms in their respective schools,” he said.

Director, Girls’ Science Senior Secondary School, Jahun, Mrs Najaatu Ibrahim,  commended the state government for supporting girl-child education.

Ibrahim assured that the school management would ensure fair and equitable distribution of the uniforms.

On her part, a student, Miss Zulaihat Muhammad, lauded the gesture, saying it would motivate her to study hard.

Similarly, Mr Usman Khalid, a father, said that many parents could not afford school uniforms for their children.

“People will be surprised to know that some parents drop their children out of school because of their inability to afford uniforms and books,” he said.
