JAMB sets new cutoff mark

Following the recently concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) resit, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results for affected candidates. The resit was held for those whose original exams were disrupted at select centres.

In a statement shared via its official X account on Sunday, JAMB—through its Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin—expressed gratitude to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for its cooperation in facilitating the rescheduled exams.

JAMB used the occasion to raise alarm over rising digital exam malpractice, warning that while many Nigerians focus on conspiracy theories and tribal rhetoric, the true threat lies in the erosion of educational integrity through high-tech fraud.

The Board revealed that during the 2025 UTME, it detected unprecedented levels of malpractice. This discovery led to the cancellation of some results and the arrest of suspects, many of whom have confessed.

Investigations uncovered a range of illicit practices, including:

  • Remote hacking: CBT centres in collaboration with school owners manipulated exam networks to control candidates’ systems remotely.
  • Photo manipulation and impersonation: Fraudsters used AI-based photo blending to replace real candidates’ faces with impersonators, including current undergraduates.
  • Combined fingerprints: Multiple people’s fingerprints were registered for a single candidate to allow impersonation during the exam.
  • Offsite “strong rooms”: Some centres extended their LAN networks to remote rooms where hired “exam experts” provided answers in real-time.

Although these breaches affected local CBT servers, JAMB confirmed that its central server remained uncompromised.

In total, over 3,000 candidates have been identified as either perpetrators or beneficiaries of the sophisticated fraud. JAMB emphasized that ongoing investigations may lead to further result cancellations, regardless of whether results have already been released.
