“No officer should be seen carrying assault rifles while dressed in civilian clothing,” the IGP stated during a virtual meeting with police managers on Monday, as conveyed in a statement by Force Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi.

He acknowledged receiving multiple complaints about human rights violations through the Force’s complaint channels and warned that any misconduct in this regard would not be tolerated, stressing that violators would face severe consequences.

“The IGP also cautioned all tactical squads against the misuse of power and improper dressing, underscoring the need for officers to operate in their designated uniforms,” the statement read in part.

He directed all tactical units to strictly adhere to standard operating procedures and ensure they are properly attired in the prescribed uniform for their respective squads.

Additionally, the IGP condemned the unauthorized transfer of cases without his written approval, describing the practice as unacceptable. He emphasized that such actions impose undue burdens on affected parties and lead to unnecessary delays in justice delivery.
