Mohammed Badaru, the minister of Defence, has confirmed his full support for the planned national security summit after previously opposing the summit.
The National Assembly put together the summit, scheduled to run for two days, with the aim to address the ongoing security issues in Nigeria.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, the minister described the summit as an opportunity to listen to different views in order to shape better responses to Nigerians security problems.
He had previously suggested that it would be better to develop a security strategy than convening for a summit.
“When you hold a summit, you hear people speak, gather perspectives and take those insights back to review and strengthen our strategy, which is translated into action. That is how change happens,” Badaru stated.
He pledged to play an active role during the summit and stand for implementation of the recommendations made.
“I will participate in the national assembly security summit and ensure that whatever outcomes from the summit are translated into action and lead to tangible results. It is a commendable move towards inclusive policy making,” he added.
He stated that the government is ready to act on any useful suggestions that’ll emerge from the summit.
