On Saturday night, the Falconets of Nigeria secured their place in the knockout stages of the U20 Women’s World Cup in Columbia with a commanding 4-0 victory over Venezuela.
Amina Bello opened the scoring in the 16th minute, assisted by Okwuchukwu. Chiamaka Okwuchukwu doubled Nigeria’s lead with a goal in the 28th minute, marking her second goal of the tournament, having previously scored Nigeria’s sole goal against Germany.
Flourish Sebastine added Nigeria’s third goal just before halftime in the 45+5th minute, a strike that had previously secured Nigeria’s 1-0 win over South Korea.
As the Nigerian team prepared to celebrate, Joy Igbokwe, who replaced Flourish Sebastine in the 88th minute, sealed the match with a goal in the 90+4th minute, assisted by Ajakaye.
In another Group D match, South Korea stunned Germany with a 1-0 win, thanks to a goal by Soo Jeon Park in the 22nd minute, assisted by Jeon.
Germany finished top of Group D with 6 points and a +4 goal difference, while Nigeria also had 6 points but a +2 goal difference, placing them second. South Korea came third with 4 points and a 0 goal difference, and Venezuela was last with 1 point and a -6 goal deficit.
Tonight, Group C will see USA face Paraguay and Morocco challenge Japan. Tomorrow, in Group F, the Netherlands will play North Korea, and Argentina will take on Costa Rica.
