Addressing concerns about the quality of his refinery’s products, Aliko Dangote has rejected accusations that his petroleum products are substandard. This response came during a visit by the House of Representatives to the Dangote Refinery in Lagos, led by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and his deputy, Benjamin Kalu.
To substantiate his position, Dangote conducted tests on diesel samples from his refinery and two other filling stations. The results, observed by the lawmakers, indicated that diesel from the other stations had significantly higher sulphur levels and lower flash points than recommended. In contrast, Dangote’s diesel met the required standards, showing a sulphur content of 87.6 ppm and a flash point of 96.
Dangote argued that these results not only validate the quality of his refinery’s products but also expose the issue of substandard imported fuels. He has called on the House of Representatives to investigate the quality of fuels at various stations and assess the credibility of testing laboratories.
Additionally, Dangote addressed claims of monopolistic practices, asserting that his company’s operations have always been competitive and transparent. He emphasized that his refinery has not received any special incentives from the government, apart from purchasing land.
Speaker Abbas noted the need for a thorough investigation into the conflicting claims about product quality and potential underlying motives.
