Marking a significant milestone, the Diocese of Lagos West, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), recently commemorated its 25th anniversary with a series of impactful activities. These included the donation of medical equipment to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, and Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, as well as a grand Anniversary Thanksgiving Service at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Ikeja.
At the Thanksgiving Service on November 20, 2024, themed “This is the Lord’s Doing” (Psalm 118:22-23), The Bishop of Remo and Archbishop of Lagos Province, The Most Reverend Michael Fape, extolled the exemplary leadership of The Rt. Reverend James Odedeji, the Diocesan Bishop. He celebrated Bishop Odedeji’s transformative efforts that elevated the diocese to prominence and recognized the foundational work of the late pioneer Bishop, Rt. Reverend Peter Adebiyi, whose vision set the stage for the diocese’s growth.
Drawing a parallel to the story of David in the Bible, Fape highlighted how God’s plans always prevail despite opposition. He remarked, “David acknowledged his rise to kingship as the Lord’s doing. In the same way, Bishop Odedeji’s leadership of the Diocese of Lagos West is a clear manifestation of God’s divine purpose.”
Fape urged Christians to trust in God’s plan and refrain from praying for the destruction of their enemies, emphasizing instead the importance of showcasing God’s glory. He further lauded the diocese’s exceptional generosity, comparing it to the Macedonian Church described in 2 Corinthians 8:1-4. “From its humble beginnings in 1999, the Diocese of Lagos West has grown into a formidable entity with numerous churches, dedicated clergy, and members of substance contributing selflessly to God’s work. This remarkable growth is undoubtedly the Lord’s doing,” he affirmed.
Concluding his message, Fape reiterated that the diocese’s influence within the Church of Nigeria and its accomplishments over the past 25 years reflect God’s unwavering grace and purpose. “Indeed, it is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes,” he declared.
