On Thursday night, a distressing incident unfolded in Zone A (Back of Primary School) within the Ushafa community of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Suspected bandits launched a violent attack, killing a man named Mr. Felix Chuks and abducting his entire family. The assault began around midnight, marked by heavy gunfire that disrupted the quiet of the night.
According to sources, the bandits’ sudden and aggressive approach overwhelmed the local security measures. Efforts by residents to alert the vigilantes during the attack proved futile, as the vigilantes on duty did not respond to their calls. The inability to reach the security personnel was likely due to the intense gunfire exchanged between the bandits and the vigilantes.
While the precise motive for Mr. Chuks’ killing remains uncertain, there are suggestions that he may have resisted the bandits, leading to his fatality. One local commented, “The bandits arrived when everyone was asleep, around midnight. It appears the man was not cooperating with them, which may have prompted them to kill him.”
This tragic event has left the community in shock and raised concerns about the effectiveness of local security responses and the increasing threat posed by banditry in the region.
