The European Union on Tuesday, said it is extending its Erasmus plus postgraduate scholarships to academic and non-academic staff of Nigerian higher institutions. Authorities in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo, reported on Tuesday that 37 young people were killed in a stampede that occurred overnight during an army recruitment drive in a stadium. The Congolese army declared last week that it was hiring 1,500 individuals between the ages of 18 and 25. New reports highlight the growing kidnap crisis in Nigeria, where Christians are regarded as soft targets for abduction. As another church leader is killed by his abductors, Release International calls on Nigeria to protect vulnerable Christian communities. Earlier this year, a report by UK parliamentarians heard that almost 90 per cent of all the Christians kidnapped worldwide are abducted in Nigeria.
