Anglican FC clinched a hard-fought 2-1 win over Paul E FC in a spirited encounter in the ongoing 2025 Nationwide League One (NLO) season.
The match, played in front of an energetic crowd at the Area 3 stadium, Abuja, saw Anglican FC display grit and tactical discipline to edge their opponents in a closely contested tie.
Anglican FC opened the scoring early in the first half with a well-placed strike from Chukwuma Ezea David that left the Paul E FC goalkeeper with no chance. Paul E FC responded shortly after with a freekick that ended in an equalizer, keeping both sides level going into the break.
The decisive moment came midway through Mgbakabala Chibuike Kabala in the second half when Anglican FC capitalized on a defensive lapse to restore their lead. Despite late pressure from Paul E FC, the Anglican side held firm to secure all three points.
Speaking after the game, the Anglican FC coach, Lawrence Augustine Ameh praised his team for win against a formidable opponent.
“I knew the game will be tough and I had told them before hand how tough their opponents are and I am glad they played to instructions and get the maximum points. They had the energy and had no fear in them. They really worked hard.
“For now, they will go and rest and we will return to training on Friday for the game on Saturday. If we are focused, they will get it. I am sure their morale will be high,” he declared.
With this victory, Anglican FC breaming with confidence will trade tackles with City FC on Saturday, while Paul E FC will look to bounce back in their next fixture against Police FC. The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion through the National Football Coordinating Bishop, The Rt. Rev’d Solomon Akanbi, congratulated the boys for a good start in the tournament urging them to remain focused for the remaining matches and fix all loop holes discovered at this match.
