TOPIC: SHOW THE LIGHT
TEXT: Ephesians 5:1-8(NKJV)
- 5:1. Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.
- 5:2. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
- 5:3. But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;
- 5:4. neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
- 5:5. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
- 5:6. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
- 5:7. Therefore do not be partakers with them.
- 5:8. For you were once darkness, but now [you are] light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
STUDY:
In this passage, Paul urges the believers in Ephesus to imitate God and walk in love, just as Christ loved them and sacrificed himself for humankind. Paul also emphasises the importance of living a life that is separated from sexual immorality, impurity, and covetousness.
As Christians, we should avoid every kind of filthiness, foolish talk, or crude joke. These instructions above apply to us today.
Beyond a divine Code of Conduct, unholy living has a tendency to deny one an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Again, we see from the text that another reason we should live in holiness is that we were darkness, but now we are light. Therefore, as children of light, we should walk as those representing and radiating the light of Christ.
We are now in a generation where some persons do not take holiness seriously: A lot of loose living, uncleanness and immorality now exist, even in the assembly of believers!
This should not be so. The word of God is clear on how we should live while in the world: As believers in the light. The instruction is clear – show the light! Beloved, let today be another divine opportunity to show the Person and character of Christ in you.
PRAYER:
Lord, help me to be and remain an agent of the light of Christ, Amen!
