TOPIC: BE STRONG IN THE LORD
TEXT: Ephesians 6: 10-12(NKJV)
- 6:10. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
- 6:11. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
- 6:12. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places.]
STUDY:
Ephesus which ranked as the Roman Empire’s third-largest city, held a great importance as a Mediterranean trade centre. It was the heart of commerce, communication and pagan worship in Asia Minor (modern- day Turkey).
Paul addressed the letter from which we drew our text today, to the Ephesians – primarily former pagans who had converted to Christianity. These believers struggled with fierce opposition from non- believers and semi-Christians (Rev. 2:1-3).
In today’s passage, Paul urged the Ephesian Christians to stand strong in the Lord against the non-stop attacks from the enemy (2 Cor. 10:3-4). Strength is defined as ability to withstand great force or pressure. It involves drawing motivation and steadfastness from God (1 Sam. 30:6) and shows the inbuilt capacity to stand for Jesus despite various human and non-human obstacles challenging our Christian faith.
Strength in the Lord is critical for victorious Christian living. Consistently triumphing over spiritual forces in high places comes from a steady fellowship with Jesus (Psalm 91:1, 27:1-5).
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, grant me strength to conquer the enemies’ strife for my soul, Amen! [cite: 465]
