TOPIC: DO NOT NEGLECT THE FAITH

TEXT: Hebrews 2:1-4 (NKJV)

  • 2:1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.
  • 2:2 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward,
  • 2:3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard [Him],
  • 2:4 God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?

STUDY

Our meditation today cautions us to take seriously the message of our salvation from God, delivered through His Son, Jesus Christ. It is possible for a believer who has known the truth, walked in it, and received results, to lose his faith.

If disobedience to the earlier messages delivered by angels and others attracted punishment, how shall we escape if we throw away such great salvation paid for by the precious blood of Jesus Christ? God attested to this salvation with signs and wonders, miracles, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

We, as a commonwealth of believers in God’s kingdom, are therefore called to hold boldly to the faith we have received (Hebrews 10:23).

Dearly beloved, the purpose of God for us is to serve Him in holiness and righteousness. We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, so we must be wise and firmly hold on to our salvation in appreciation of our deliverance from the bondage of sin and death.

We can now approach God as our Father, with freedom and confidence, and give ourselves to prayer and meditation on the Word of God, ensuring regular fellowship with other believers.

PRAYER

Help me, Lord, to hold on confidently to my faith all the days of my life. Amen!
