  • 2:24. and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”

Study

Today marks the commemoration of the circumcision and naming of Jesus Christ-an important event in the Christian calendar. Circumcision is the outward covenant sign between God and Abraham’s descendants. It entails the actual cutting away of the fore skin of the male genital.

This rite of circumcision is one of the things that mark a person as a proper Jew and qualifies Him for the Abrahamic covenant (Gen. 17:10-14).

In fact, Jesus was circumcised on the eighth day in accordance with the Law of Moses, and the other processes involved in this rite of circumcision were duly followed as recorded in the passage for today.

As a New Testament believer, circumcision new meaning – it is a circumcision of the heart (Rom. 2:29). It now refers to a spiritual cutting away of our Adamic (sinful) nature when we become born again and enter into a covenant with God.

Consequent upon this circumcision, we have been delivered from the power and tyranny of sin to live a holy, righteous and godly life that glorifies God(Col.2:13).

Friend, as we begin the journey of another new year today, be assured that there are many great blessings that God is holding out to you, but you must be a member of the family of God to enjoy them in their fullness.

You need to first undergo this spiritual circumcision of the heart to also be a member of this great family. Remember Jesus said it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to dogs (Matt. 7:27).

Conclusion

Beloved, the circumcision of Christ reminds us of the deeper spiritual reality of being set apart for God through the circumcision of the heart. This act signifies a life dedicated to God, free from the bondage of sin, and transformed by His grace. Just as Jesus was obedient to the law at birth, so too must we yield to God’s call for holiness and surrender our hearts to Him.

As we step into this new year, let us not only celebrate the blessings God has for His children but also ensure we are part of His family by truly knowing Jesus as our Savior. Through this covenant of faith, we gain access to the fullness of God’s promises—peace, joy, and eternal life.

May our hearts be circumcised and our lives be a testimony of His saving grace. Surrender to Him today and embrace the blessings of being a child of God. Amen.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please circumcise my heart so I can belong to your family and have unhindered access to your blessings, Amen!
