135:3Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; Sing praises to His name, for it is pleasant.
135:4 For the Lord has chosen Jacob for Himself, Israel for His special treasure.
STUDY:
The phrase,’Praise the Lord’,’Praise the name of the Lord’ or ‘Praise Him’occurs 4 times in verses 1 and 3 of our text. With these words, the Psalmist calls upon us to praise the Lord, whether we are ministers or lay people, inside the temple or in the courts. The major reasons for praising God are evident in verses 3 and 4. First, the Lord is good. Good in every sense of the word. He is good and upright, a refuge in times of trouble (Psa. 25:8; Nahum 1:7).
The second reason is that God has chosen Jacob for Himself. Here, Jacob represents all who have come to a saving knowledge of Christ and have become adopted as children of God (Rom. 8:17). As indicated in verse 4, such people have been chosen as God’s special treasure (see also Exodus 19:5).
How do you respond to the goodness of God as an individual, family or church? Some people do so by offering material or financial gifts in support of God’s work. This is good, but you must ensure that you have “a broken and a contrite heart”, a response that God does not despise(Psa.51:17-19). Is the Lord good to you and your family?
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for your goodness and mercy towards me and my family.
