Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Federal School of Surveying, Oyo , to offer a degree programme in Surveying and Geo-Informatics. The Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Professor Dapo Asaju, stated while signing the document, that it was important that both institutions should collaborate being neighbours. Both institutions are the oldest in Oyo.
Rt. Rev. Professor Dapo Asaju noted that both institutions already have very high standards, and they would do well to let such standards reflect on the collaboration. By this collaboration students of both institutions would leverage on the strength of each other in courses and practical to turn out well-rounded graduated of Surveying and Geo-Informatics.
‘I know that collaboration will benefit both institutions. I am glad that we have done this, although I have barely a month to stay in office. I urge those of you I am leaving behind to ensure that this collaboration comes into fruition. I thank the staff of both institutions who have done the groundwork for this. We are close door neighbours, and I am happy to have seen this collaboration before exiting office ’ he said.
In her response, the Rector of the School of Surveying, Oyo, Surveyor Dr. Olayinka Dupe Nihinlola, her institution is the only such institution in Nigeria and had thus produced over 80 percent of the Surveyors that practice in Nigeria. She said students of both institutions would come out better with the training they would get. She said the collaboration brought some nostalgic feeling to her, given that the desire to become a Surveyor began when she was a pupil in the Demonstration Primary School of St, Andrew’s Teacher Training College, Oyo, where Ajayi Crowther University is currently located, promising to do all in her power to make the collaboration work.
In his reaction, Professor Owoyemi Oshin of the Department of Geology, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, who chaired the Committee that worked out the collaboration, said he was happy with the collaboration. He said even Geology students will benefit from the program.
Members of Management of both institutions were in attendance at the signing ceremony which took place at the Council Chambers of Ajayi Crowther University.
