In a bid to boost tourism in Nigeria’s capital, plans have been finalized to construct the tallest Christmas light tree in Africa. This initiative, driven by the private sector, aims to create a landmark that unites people across borders and cultures.

During the flag-off ceremony in Abuja, FCT Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud emphasized that the project will symbolize hope, resilience, and the unity of the nation. She highlighted that the tree will not only represent the holiday season but also stand as a testament to Nigeria’s cultural heritage and collective creativity.

“This extraordinary tree, once completed, will shine brightly as a symbol of our shared values, the strength of our cultural heritage, and the boundless potential within us all,” Mahmoud stated.

She also pointed out that this event marks the beginning of future celebrations, family gatherings, and community events, with the tree expected to illuminate the nights and embody the festive spirit of Christmas. “This project is not just about height or grandeur; it’s about the light it will spread, the smiles it will inspire, and the warmth it will share with everyone who sees it,” she added.

The FCT Administration is committed to supporting and promoting tourism in the Territory, with the project underscoring the spirit of collaboration that will make the tree a cherished landmark for generations.

Jennifer Fatorisa, Director of Jav Events, speaking on behalf of the organizers, announced that the tallest Christmas light tree in Africa would be unveiled on December 7th, 2024, in partnership with the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Social Events. She noted that Jav Events have attracted over 300,000 visitors to date and aim to highlight Abuja as a prime tourist destination while promoting the city’s rich cultural heritage.

“Our events offer a unique experience for families during the festive periods, featuring festive activities, decorations, games, shopping, and entertainment,” Fatorisa stated. She also revealed plans for the Jav Christmas Village 2024 in collaboration with the Abuja Continental Hotel, a project that promises to be a groundbreaking tourist attraction in Abuja, drawing visitors from across the continent and beyond.
